I suspect, over the next two years or so, NI users will abandon the locally-installed version to run the web version, simply due to the interface improvements that will be EASY to make in a web app, and impossible to make in their core application. The overall badness of KK is somewhat mitigated by the use of a Komplete Kontrol keyboard, which is the only reason I can possibly imagine that they wouldn’t update it. There’s no way to play sounds in Komplete Kontrol standalone without having a MIDI keyboard connected. You can’t search the factory library and the user library at the same time. There is no way to search more than one plugin without searching them all. When browsing, there’s no way to tell which product a preset is for without loading it completely.
